In all things, the core protocols should be compatible with GNU social if they are using that OStatus/AS format. While the GS AS has many things I would say are quite odd, in review they are following a very literal and semantic interpretation of the standard, which should be something that external software should be able to read.

Though it's worth mentioning that this does serve as somewhat of an example about how following a standard so literally and to the letter can lead to what is ultimately quite weird implementations in practice (such as the weird nesting behaviour some GS statuses have - which is actually mandated in the standard to a degree)
