On my drive back from Kingston, I caught up on a bunch of http://status.hackerposse.com/url/24243 podcasts. I particularly enjoyed (as always) the latest episide of “This Week in Google”. I very specifically enjoyed the new character @ leo tried out: Senator Devil. Always the Devil’s Advocate, Senator Devil was a painful but useful counterpoint … perhaps much to t… -

This day went (mostly) as planned, including the (final?) furniture delivery to our house. We finally have plenty of seating for guests in the living room, plus a sleeper sofa in one of the offices. The cats love the sleeper sofa. ‘Nuff said. Also, I finished the first major phase of a migration to Pandas Dataframes in a piece of monitoring software. Hooray for 50% fewe… -

Sigh. Spending an evening poring over a Mac desktop stuck in recovery mode after a failed update. I know I sound like a Linux user … but this never happens in Linux. Well, never is strong. Less often than Windows and Mac OS. -

I missed SNOLAB after a week at Queen's. I clearly can't have this both ways. I like both places too much. :-) Anyway, it was good to be back in the swing of things at the lab today. -

There is nothing quite so satisfying as the process of morphing dozens of lines of numpy.array indexing and masking code by condensing it into one, or a few, lines of Pandas Dataframe magic. Very readable. Same results. WAY easier to maintain. I hope my colleagues on this project are as convinced of this migration as I am. :-D -

"Why certain foods taste better the next day" https://www. washingtonpost.com/food/2023/0 3/03/food-leftovers-taste-better/ @ jodi Maybe we will finally get some hints as to why your chili ages like a fine wine in the span of just 72 hours, becoming even more delicious as time passes. :-) -

Thoroughly enjoyed the @queensu Physics/Engr. Physics/Astronomy Colloquium yesterday by @NeutronJo, where she spoke about teaching models and shared lessons-learned. I really miss teaching, and her experiences make me look forward to doing it again. -

What a great week at Queen's University. The department was kind enough to let me use a faculty office whose occupant was away. That person was clearly a condensed matter/solid state expert. I was surrounded by the subject in books and charts. I kept having flashbacks to my C in solid state physics in college. Nevertheless, lessons from that class stuck around longer than… -

The walks to and from my department at Queen’s have been lovely. Mornings are my favorite. I have been thrilled at the chance to sit in on classes and learn about the teaching styles and methods in use in physics classes. I am also grateful for the time to think about HALO data quality and PICO monitoring software. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/48ba517a6280a4cd0c7942ae5858ca0e5fbb24119e4d14bff8844beb4b135224/view
