Looking forward to exploring with my #PHYS3305 students the implications of the quantum mechanical application of the harmonic oscillator model tomorrow. Let's spend a little time with our... um... As we have explored a little this semester, Bragg Scattering would also prove a crucial tool in directly revealing the wave nature of matter. #PHYS3305 https://twitter.com/nobelprize/status/1244870546040422400 -

Moar decaying muons! This weekend I learned how to generate the error band in the fit plot in Python. This is also the first evening the low side of the error band in the highest decay time bins has NOT included zero at 1 sigma. Statistics filling in nicely! Thanks, nature! https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1244413618210377731/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64108 -

"Sunday in the Park with Pandemic" Scenes from Collin County, TX. Sidewalk chalked with Biblical messages, presumably ahead of Easter. â**Spread hope, not Coronavirusâ** one implores. The sidewalk runs in front of the park. Itâ**s a city park. A sign is staked into the ground nearby, indicating the park is closed by order of the city. Children climb the monkey bars and… -

Let's get our muon lifetime fix! Since starting this report, the detector recorded 3931 muon decay candidates over 339 hours of continuous data-taking. An exponential decay + flat combinatoric model gives a lifetime of 2176 +/- 36 nanoseconds. Model visualization is fancier now! https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1243676968790474760/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64079 -

Your daily #muon decay lifetime measurement! Surprise... the "missing bins" have filled in since I mentioned them yesterday. Nature delivered a bunch of muons in the "gap" regions that existed yesterday. Be careful about fretting over small statistics...! https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1242950257270497286/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64041 -

There is a lot of attention on exponential functions with the growth of #COVID19 Here's a less scary example of exponential behavior in nature: the decay probability of #muons, heavy cousins of #electrons. This is running continuously and based on 266 hours of data so far. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1242572407505850374/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64027 -

Had an AWESOME @SMUPhysics #PHYS1010 (Honors Physics) digital class last night.
