    there's an argument to be made that a language is purely functional and thus not copyrightable, but that's probably a losing argument.

    so, my knowledge of low-level programming (and well, programming general) is fairly weak. I suppose it's libraries that are proprietary, and not the language itself?

    the other thing that I don't think is explicit is that education with proprietary software languages is rather silly considering eventually you will hit a block. *That* should get in there.

    and even if you read Professor Chon's chapter at length, I reference, if obliquely, her in-class presentation as well. She made comments like (and I'm paraphrasing) "I just like books."
