I can't answer that question without knowing more about St. Stephen's. I think maybe an email to the Future of Music people is in order. -

for perhaps the first time in law school, I am not the only person in here using a Debian derivative. -

interestingly, -NC-ND, was formerly called "Music Sharing License" but they dropped name because people thought it was only for music. -

@lnxwalt280 if @rms thinks using -nd will prevent commentary, someone needs to explain fair use to him. -

@lnxwalt280 plenty use by-nd as well. No -nc -

Of course, I think -NC remixes should be fair use but I don't think CC should make policy decisions based on a fair use pipe dream. -

Trying to take my own personal view that -ND is abomination out of larger policy debate for its inclusion. I just don't understand why someone wouldn't want their stuff remixed. I do understand why someone would want a cut of revenue. -

I don't think I've said this during this debate, so I will. I don't understand the -ND license because people don't really need a legal tool to say "share my stuff". However, there is slight difference between by-nc-nd and by-nd, so kinda get it. -

@dper I dont think CC should be making policy decisions based on websites that don't know how to build an appropriate metadata system. -

@dper I don't know what you are looking for specifically, but Jamendo, FMA, flickr and others have searches by license. -

@mlinksva internationalization is separate issue than -NC and -ND as far as I'm concerned. I can't say I know enough about the Internationalization process to comment intelligently. My gut says that's a better place to cut licenses than -NC and -ND. -

I guess you're right that the appeal to n00bs is a separate argument, except that if famous people switch to CC, then they are CC n00bs, so hard to differentiate. -

are there "famous" people that have used BY or BY-SA? Maybe Dan Bull (who incidentally will be on Music Manumit in a couple of weeks) -

I was mostly responding to the "perfection" comment. I'm not sure some sort of "headstart" provision (1-5 years or something) wouldn't be good, but I mostly don't disagree with you on the entirely theoretical point of abolition -

I assume most Music Manumit tracks are -NC as well, though I haven't run any numbers on it. Part of this is because Quote Unquote records and Stone Age Records both use -NC, as well as @davidrovics, Louis Lingg and the Bombs and many of my favorite artists. -

I wasn't disputing the "needed" part, no one "needs" -NC or -ND, IMO, but you said they don't *appeal* to them. I think -NC appeals to some of them for the same reasons it appeals to many CC n00bs. -NC was the first license I used, for instance.
