   You build a compiler then you use it to build another compiler (independent of the host) then you use that to build a system. It's confusing

   Probably depends a lot on the machine. This is a VM with 2 cores and 2 gigs of RAM running Debian.

   Compiled GCC 4.8.1 in 23 minutes. I remember doing it in just under 3 hours once with a full bootstrap.

    My version has an INSTALL document, which is standard. It doesn't say haow to upgrade though.
