Why the big push to get back on-campus so quickly? A campus employee in Ann Arbor #MI has a story. https://nu.federati.net/url/274506 [www metrotimes com]

One of my sisters was telling me about another teacher she knows.
The teacher's daughter, son-in-law, and (age 2-3) granddaughter are all infected with #COVID-19. They live in a rural area, so they thought they'd be safe attending gatherings (a wedding reception) and arranging play dates for the child.

Another reason to wear a mask: BAL sounds like it could be painful, and definitely uncomfortable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronchoalveolar_lavage [en wikipedia org]

Cloudflare discussing yesterday’s CenturyLink / Level 3 outage and its impact on CF and others.
-
I knew that #CenturyLink had absorbed #Qwest ( which had absorbed #USWest ), and of course, #CenturyTel and #Embarq. What I did not know was that they also bought #Level_3.
The company is much larger that I thought it was, so this outage appears to have been massive.

A little bit more tired today than I have been. Can’t put it down to lack of sleep, as night-time temperatures are actually getting into the reasonable range again. Peak outdoor temperatures have been below 100F / 38C again (and peak indoor temperatures are near 90F / 32C, which is still too warm to be any kind of productive).

Was able to take a five mile walk today.

I remember ads for Osborne 1 and for KayPro "luggable" computers, but I don't think I ever actually saw one in person. I guess I just didn't know enough high-money people.

Ryanair -- aren't they the one that is known for being so penny-pinching that they even charge passengers to use the lavatories?

"People who refuse to wear a face mask are likely to have sociopathic tendencies, a Brazilian study has claimed. Researchers found that anti-social behaviour is a common trait amongst those who prefer not to wear coverings amid the coronavirus pandemic. Professor Fabiano Koich Miguel and colleagues at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina researched the link between compliance …

Many years ago, when I was in my early twenties, I went through a period where almost all I wanted to eat were apples. Looking back, I think more than 75% of my food intake was apples, usually Red Delicious.

Appeals Court rules that Congress must pass a law giving itself subpoena power. https://nu.federati.net/url/274494 [www upi com]
Congress (both houses) has always issued subpoenas, as far back as I can remember.
-
One would hope that #SCOTUS would accept an emergency appeal, and that Congress would immediately get to work on passing a bill to give the Senate and the House of Representatives well-defined, well-thought-out, limited subpoena powers.

Took a while because of privacy rules, but I think $EMPLOYER is about to issue policies around company-provided #COVID-19 testing. Unfortunately, I don't think they're making allowance for the fact that test results are for a specific point in time, so a "clean bill of health" on one day's test does not necessarily apply two weeks later.
-
If they re-open some field offices and overcrowd them as usual with employees of this and other agencies, then "look, everyone tested okay" just means up to two weeks' delay before the outbreak starts.

When you want to add me as your XMPP contact, at least say hi to me first.

I got a contact request in XMPP, but I don't recognize the username, so I'm going to deny it. If it was you, let me know before you re-request.

https://nu.federati.net/url/274483 [news stonybrook edu] This professor's mathematical model has correctly predicted 5 of the past 6 presidential elections, but is it really the same model? He admits that he has modified it over the years. Would today's model make the same correct predictions as those from 20-25 years ago?
