I need to find my hotspot. The new phone doesn't like our cert. (I suspect AT&T is using a MITM proxy and the instance needs a setting change to work across it ... but I honestly prefer no connection to a MITM'd connection.)

I'm thinking of shutting this server down. I've managed to keep it afloat for 10 years. (Maintained is too strong a word!)

As is usual ... I post a notice every year to say...

I finally looked up “Despacito”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJQP7kiw5Fk
This must have been released after I left #PR. By the sound of it, I would have heard it.

I'll be three hours away from #sonOne just a couple weeks before his birthday and #GD2's birthday. I won't have a car, though.

Indoor peak temperatures are starting to moderate. Currently 80°F, but there was a stretch in August and early September whee it reached 90-93°F most days.

I would really appreciate shares to get the message out of this. Also, please feel free to translate. I would love to have native Spanish speakers in particular involved as South America is predominantly Spanish-speaking. I know Brazil is Portuguese and one of the smaller northeast countries is English-speaking, but we just need diversity in general and I think having native sp…

Arthur Ashkin, Nobel-winning physicist who trapped molecules with light, dies at 98 I am grateful that I got to celebrate and share his accomplishments with my first-semester physics students just a couple of years ago. #APConf talk (conference is next week, I think; but those are mostly Q&A sessions, so pre-watching is encouraged)

He's talking about things that decentralized networks (and the people and software projects involved in them) can do to be better (more attractive to users) than #corpocentric networks. Naturally, he's focused on the #ActivityPub subset of the #Fediverse, but some of this applies to other decentralized networks as well.

@lanodan GLib has a wrapper for malloc that crashes the programme out when encountering NULL, so you won't see any undefined behaviour from GNOME.

@lanodan Well, either way, the grim OOM reaper is coming for them.

@mangeurdenuage One of the greatest and worst things about "cloud" software. If it is working, you're not having to maintain it because the vendor takes care of everything. If it is not working, you have to wait for the vendor to fix it, because the vendor takes care of everything.

@mangeurdenuage I did see an article where they claimed that all the famous towers in history were symbolic phalluses. I thought the person was making stuff up. Nearly everyone knows that the reason people build towers is to make the building tall enough to be seen over a wide area ... not to symbolize their erections. People get obsessed with uprooting the patriarchy and soon …
