Trump and Pence have shortened their "Make America Great Again" slogan to "MAGA" on social media. But treated as a word instead of an initialism, "maga" has interesting meanings in languages other than English. In Romance Languages (those derived from Latin), it means something like "wizard," "mage," or "sorceress". I remind people that Voldemort was a wizard, lest only images of Harry Potter come to mind in this instance. Malcom Merlyn also comes to mind. In Japanese, "maga" apparently means "devil". No further comment is warranted. In Yoruba, "maga" means "idiot" (thanks to P. Mimi Poinsett for that gem, https://twitter.com/yayayarndiva ) In other languages, "maga" means variously "stomach," "abscess," "swelling," and "election". Well, at least that last one might have been an intended meaning...
