I.e. if a person comes from a violent country: is it more or less likely to commit a violent crime in the new country; is it the surrounding social environment that causes/prevents acts of aggression and crime?

You can't point to a table of statistics and say "this person comes from that country which means that specific person in any other environment has the same likelihood of commiting crimes".
