Well, memory use is about the same on Daemons with the "fix".  I have to have monit keep them up as they still seem wibbly.  Processor use is a tradeoff between high and occasional, and low but constant.  Queue is kept much clearer.  I notice I get kicked out due to expired sessions much more often.

So tradeoffs, but the end result seems to be the instance more stably fast, as opposed to fast most of the time but lethargically slow sometimes.
