@gameragodzilla @pennyfortheguy I feel like identity politics in this context gets used by people to leverage others to vote the way they could.  It's the means by which appeals are made to a person's nature to change their opinion.  As I said to Penny, you can't make someone believe something unless there's some part of them that wants to.  How identity politics achieves this is with the tribalism thing.  "You wouldn't want to be one of the BAD PEOPLE would you?"  To which the natural response is usually: "No, of course I don't!"
