So many of the lies we tell ourselves are the rationalizations by which we find rest after having slighted one another, injured our fellows. We become restless after such conflicts and seek comfort in telling ourselves that this other party deserved it in some way. They did not follow the observed norms, or perhaps they are foolish and believed something stupid. We build these walls and hide behind them, like scared children hiding under the bed or under the closet, unable to come to terms with the fact that much of what we do that creates such conflict and has such consequences are willful choices that we made and engaged in. No such thing was coerced from us. No gun was held to our head. And yet still we fight along these battle lines dictated, so often, by the upper class whom profit from them, at our own expense.
