I see all this talk about various # series and movies (including unofficial ones made by fans). I honestly have not watched most of them and probably would not if I had the opportunity.

Why? I’m a normie who liked #, #, #, but never learned Klingon or wore fake Vulcan ears. The original movies were garbage (ST:Generations was okay), but the first of the JJ Abrams was good. I know Trekkies hated it, but normies liked it. I have not seen any of the newer series or movies.

In some respect, it is like seeing someone you knew in high school at the mall. It’s okay to say “I really liked the old days” and ask how they are doing and what their life has been like since you knew each other. But it is not okay to decide at 40 or even 80 years old that you and your old school buddy are going to try to relive those years. You’re not the same people and you’ve evolved your lives independently.

So I see no reason (other than “hey, we can make more money”) for Paramount to re-launch Star Trek every five or ten years. Instead, create a new story or set of stories, set in a new universe, with new plots, new characters, and a new objective.
