In the same vein, I have seen several articles telling parents that raising their kids “colorblind” reinforces racism. The writers, in my opinion, are wrong. Raising kids colorblind, in a situation where they have lots of exposure to various races, colors, ancestries means that they as individuals will treat others as individuals instead of group members.
Now, if parents do not have that sort of mixed environment to raise their kids in, then it helps to make the kids aware that people come in all sorts of shapes, heights, weights, colors, and ancestries ... but at the end of the day, people are all just people.
At some point, trying to focus kids on “anti-racism” just turns the racism in a different direction.
