I don't think that was it. A lot of youthful Sanders supporters did not show up on their states' election night. Unless people vote for him, he loses. On Super Tuesday, NBC (at least) noted that young voters did not show (not even at the 2016 level).

His supporters have to turn their enthusiasm into actual voting.
