“F16: Sovereignty necessitates understanding.

Not everyone cares to understand the software they're using. But if you want to compute sovereignly, you must understand what your computer is doing. If it regularly surprises you, you're not in control of it. You must tame it. The current paradigm is a wild monster which cannot be tamed by mere humans — only megacorporations even attempt to do so, and it's always temporary. So, your software needs to be simple enough that it can be understood.”

The first portion is very important: “Sovereignty necessitates understanding.

Not everyone cares to understand the software they're using. But if you want to compute sovereignly, you must understand what your computer is doing. If it regularly surprises you, you're not in control of it.”

That is fundamental, but even most FOSS people never get far enough that this becomes apparent to them.
