Suddenly remembered one time when I was growing up. It was the last week of the month and we were low on food. The neighbor came to say that they were completely out and asked us to share some food. I was given the task of choosing which of our remaining food supplies would be given to the neighbor's family. I chose a can of beets and a can of saurkraut, both things I have always hated, which was 40% of our remaining food.

(This was the neighbor whose son sniffed glue and spray paint out of baggies and came at me with a baseball bat. He was in a gang.)

Is it weird to feel a little bit of guilt because I gave them the foods that I was least interested in?

(By the way, the next day, a local church dropped off a box of food for us and a bag of kibble for the dog. I do not know whether they also fed the neighbors.)
