Having family members that were in newspapers for decades, I understand the need for papers to get paid. But the newspapers are the ones that hurt their own cause, first by not restraining the behavior of their ads, and then by cutting back on their fact-checking (and even spelling / grammar checking) staff to the point where even a fifth grader would complain about the quality of their writing.

Sorry for your loss, New York Times, but other than a rare story of national significance, I have zero interest in subscribing to a newspaper for a place so remote from everything that matters to me. May as well be from some town in the middle of Georgia.
