Remembering that I was in the local college's computer lab, to do some online homework that did not work with Netscape / Mozilla browsers. I had to wait for about an hour because some students had discovered a chatroom for Mormon teens and were busy trying to find a sexual term or swear word that didn't get transformed into something innocuous.
.
Later, a student was able to knock out the online coursework server by uploading a compressed very large file consisting only of the \0 (0x00) character. In the logs, they found that the student in question had also tried to take down other sites, a potentially huge liability issue for the college.
.
I can understand why the college needs to filter student activities. Honestly, go to your local cellular carrier store and get a hotspot device with some number of gigs of data. Then, you can use your own laptop / tablet on your own Internet connection and visit the sites which interest you.
