Seeing @moonman’s progress with the walking is gladdening to the heart.

Many years ago, I used to walk to and from my college campus five times per week. By the shortest route, it was 13 miles (but I usually went the 15 mile route in the morning to avoid loose dogs). That works out to around 45 km per day, and yes, my legs and joints were constantly a little sore. I slept like a rock for a couple of hours, then woke up because my legs were throbbing, then slept for another hour or two, and then it was time to get up and do it all over again.

What a time that was! I am surprised I can look back at it fondly, and I can’t tell you how glad I am that those days are over. It was not fun.

I sometimes wish I was at that same level of physical fitness. (I remember walking 7 miles to get a Coke and a pint of ice cream, then walking back home. By the way, this area has developed a lot since then. The nearest store is under a mile away.)
