@triodug I used to have a five hours per day commute when I worked closer to Los Angeles. On Fridays it was hours longer because of people heading for Las Vegas after work.

Why did I do it? When I took that job, I immediately doubled my hourly wage. With overtime, I effectively tripled my pre-tax pay.

I don't recommend it, though. It is really tough on both your own mind and body as well as on your family relationships. Move closer to work or move somewhere where the pay and living costs are in a better balance for you.
