@mmn @benfell @lnxw48 During the 2011 Canadian General Election voters were Robocalled, allegedly from Elections Canada to direct them to different polling stations. The calls were bogus, and were traced to the Conservative Party of Canada. In addition, today I learned that other # were made in the name of opposition parties, in the middle of the night and during solemn religious holidays. The calls were made exclusively to a list of "non-supporters" maintained by the Conservative Party of Canada. In 2007, with the Conservative Party of Canada in power, a law was passed that severely reduced the power of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada to conduct investigations. So, naturally, there was no effective investigation into the voter suppression and telephone harassment of 2011. In August 2014 a court case concluded, convicting one junior member of the Conservative Party of Canada with electoral fraud. Today I learned of plenty of other evidence of senior Conservative members who authorized or provided funding for the fraudulent Robocalls. Unfortunately, a conclusion by the courts that there is insufficient evidence of wrongdoing means that there will be no accountability or restitution made by the top Conservative Party officials responsible. Wikipedia has an article on this; I have not read it closely enough to check its accuracy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Canadian_federal_election_voter_suppression_scandal In a few days there will probably be a report on today's meeting on the Fair Vote Waterloo website http://fairvotewrc.ca/ !CdnPoli
