Jack Wallen @JWallen writes "Let's talk Linux, but in a language we can all understand". Trouble is, people new to computers don't know that old words have new meanings. Doesn't matter if you call a particular data structure "Home" or "User Folder" or "Library"; these words already mean something that has nothing to do with computers, and people still need to learn their new meanings. If you create brand new words for computer parts then it doesn't matter if you call a device "C: drive" or "/dev/sda1", people still need to learn the meanings of these new words. So there's no getting away from learning new things when you're learning about computers. But I agree, it would be nice if the different operating systems could name their pieces with the same vocabulary, whether they're old words or new words. http://www.techrepublic.com/article/lets-talk-linux-but-in-a-language-we-can-all-understand #
