Sticking to an old version of any software is a dead end, I think... But maybe only developers think so?! :-)

As #AndStatus is an Open Source software, you may figure out necessary fix yourself and propose it's inclusion into the main stream. But even in this case I would recommend you to better extend GNU Social to your needs thus contributing to the Community...
