Shared from RSS: "The Golan Heights 1" The last stop of our driving tour of Northern Israel was the Golan Heights. In the distance, you can see a dark line in the land. This is the marker for the start of the demilitarized zone between Israel and Syria. The Syrian border is a bit further, but basically in the distance on the left you are looking into Syria. This area has b… -

Shared from RSS: "The Sea of Galilee" We had lunch at and then swam in the Sea of Galilee. This was probably my favorite part of the day. The water was wonderful. https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/m/the-sea-of-galilee/ ( Feed URL: https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/atom/ ) -

Shared from RSS: "Fish in the Jordan" A huge number of fish congregate here. Not sure if this is normal or because people feed them and they've learned to stay here to feed. https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/m/fish-in-the-jordan/ ( Feed URL: https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/atom/ ) -

Shared from RSS: "The Jordan River 1" We stopped at the symbolic point where John the Baptist did his famous baptisms at the beginning of the Common Era. This is not the actual point; that is near Jericho. However, due to the conflict in the region this place was setup for pilgrims to use for baptisms. It was also the biggest "tourist trap" I've seen in Israel. http://stat… -

Shared from RSS: "Jodi at Beit She'arim National Park" We were impressed by the dangerous plants growing on the lookout, and Jodi wanted to be photographed with one of them. https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/m/jodi-at-beit-she-arim-national-park/ ( Feed URL: https://media.cooleysekula.net/u/sekula/atom/ ) -

Shared from RSS: "Beit She'arim National Park 10" A high lookout point at the park, affording a wide view of the surrounding region. Bad, bad storms in north Texas knocked out power to our house for t > T, where T is the amount of time our battery backup systems can last. Lost our server from about 00:40 US Central Time onward. Services now restored (GNU Social, web, Diaspora*, dokuwiki, etc.). Thanks to Randy Scalise for going above and beyond as a housesitter! -

Decided to "dine in" on the Weizmann Institute campus tonight. Jodi has an 8pm meeting. Dining in turned out to be a good idea. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/2135 -

"The Hub," my pump.io instance, is down for the indefinite future. The dedicated server went down while I am traveling and I cannot power-cycle it. I have a house-sitter, and I might ask them to try doing it... but I hate diagnosing a problem via an intermediary! :-) -

Had a decent night's sleep. I was only unable to sleep from about 2-4am, but otherwise did well. Jodi and I had a nice breakfast at the guest house and are soon off to the physics department at the Weizmann Institute. It is going to be hot here this week: upwards of 105F or thereabouts. Feels like Texas! -
