If something is broken, try to fix it. If you've truly understood a thing, you can't make the problem worse (it's already broken) and you might make it better! Our knowledge of the universe is broken, in that it's incomplete: try to fix it. You probably can't make things worse. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1146836524916514816/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/59062 -

To be a physicist, you need to be unafraid to tinker with the universe - to try to pull it apart, see how it works, and put the pieces back together to find if you've truly understood it. Kids: lose your fear of tinkering - in code, in hardware, in making and building. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1146835335646781442/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/59059 -

One of the things I want to know more about is how the Higgs interacts with itself. My work on Higgs + bottom quarks + b-jet triggers is part of a larger effort to support that work. With my student, post-doc, and faculty colleagues, we are part of the team pushing this effort. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1146834493459902465/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/59056 -

From CMSExperiment https://twitter.com/CMSExperiment on Twitter: It's been 7 years since the #Higgs boson discovery! Now anybody can discover the Higgs boson for themselves using CMS #OpenData. So many people agencies, from so many countries, institutions, and backgrounds came together to make the Higgs discovery possible. And yet I know as I scientist we can do more to include more people, excite more kids into science, and reduce national (and all other) boundaries. -

Hard to believe that it's been 7 years since the announcement of the Higgs particle discovery. So much learned; the scale of the unknown is still vast. I collected memories of the day + visions of the unknowns as part of "Reality in the Shadows (or) What the Heck's the Higgs?". https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1146832776433426436/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/59045 -

There is a joy in pulling apart a clothes dryer, finding the reason for its inability to dry clothes, replacing the part, and reassembling it to find you made it work again, at a cost of $35. I lost my fear of tinkering as a teenager when I learned it's ok to take things apart. -

Ok... first workable prototype of a standalone pump for the rain barrels is done. Astute observers in the audience will notice that "Bun-Bun's" house has been repurposed as a fashionable pump house. All of this is... https://www.instagram.com/p/BzbmSzpHPKT/?igshid=516jzk2a6qht -

From NobelPrize https://twitter.com/NobelPrize on Twitter: Today we remember nuclear physicist Hans Bethe, who was born on this day in 1906. In 1938, Hans Bethe proved that fusion produces the enormous energy emitted by stars. He proposed two different processes, both of which result in hydrogen nuclei fusing with helium nuclei. https://twitter.com/NobelPrize/status/1146001576018006017/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/58954 -
