As usual, the problem is not that I have to process 1.1 million "simulated universes," each with its own set of outcomes for an input set of parameters for a model beyond the Standard Model. I have 2000 cores available at a keystroke that make that an easy problem. The problem is that 10 of those points fail. And then I have to find them. And then I have to resubmit the…

Anti-matter hydrogen (antihydrogen) has been made for a while now at CERN and a few other places. Researchers on the ASACUSA experiment have now made a beam of it using magnetic fields. Neat! http://www.quantumdiaries.org/2014/01/28/anti-beam-me-up-scotty/

I removed the Facebook native android app from my phone over the “SMS permissions” nonsense. Now I am rediscovering the Facebook website. Works great on my phone in Firefox. I don't see why I even need a native app.

Delayed out of Geneva. Fast-tracked through Heathrow and made it to connection. Connection delayed because crew bus broke down on highway. I have weird luck.

Good morning, Europe! It's my last morning at CERN. My flight to the UK is at 10:30 and I'll be back in Dallas by 6pm US Central time. I have a LONG transatlantic flight ahead of me today, but it will be so nice to be home.

Last full day at #CERN. I got up really early today (just couldn't sleep anymore), and I'm enjoying a nice coffee and a light breakfast in the CERN Restaurant 1. Today I need to finish tracking down data containers on the GRID that are mysteriously missing files (with no record of their loss); I have two meetings about a paper that I'm co-authoring on ATLAS data; I ne…
