There are still far too many web designers putting banners, menus, toolbars &c. at the top of web pages which makes short, wide screens difficult to use, especially when those elements are {position:fixed}. Protip: {position:fixed} works for horizontal layout too! -

@jk Your web site is a beautiful thing! Run it through http://validator.w3.org/ to clean up the last of the errors; next to good content, conformant HTML is one of the best SEO strategies you can have. -

Or even better, don't use #Javascript at all, but make use of the :hover pseudo element so that when the heading is rolled over, the description goes from display:none to display:block . Additional marks for creating a position:fixed block to overlay the existing text. -

@drak I'm more concerned about the customer, who may have signed a EULA (contract?) agreeing that the software is licensed solely to them (even though they *should* have the right to re-distribute under the GPL). If the customer then does re-distribute, exercising their GPL rights, are they liable for breaching the contract? !fs -

@jk Urm, no. You've used #Javascript on http://ur1.ca/g06ll to make a description *appear*. On a non-JS browser that text will _never_ appear. Instead, use JS to *hide* that text with <body onload=…>, then additional JS to make it appear again. That way non-JS browsers never hide the descriptions in the first place, at the expense of a slightly more cluttered page (but those of us… -

If a software developer violates the GPL by claiming a derivative work is their IP licensed only for use by their customer, what is the legal liability for that customer? !FS attn @bkuhn -

GnuPG/PGP isn't transport-layer encryption. For e-mail it's a message container that has to be opened separately; similar for files. If you want to store a message plain text, save it as plain text. The problem is that mail clients or their !crypto plugins have tried to make the encryption layer seamless with the transport layer or the message store. The analogy of a (plaintext) pos…
