    It's amazing how many little specialized chips are out now. You can build lots of things with a minimal part count.

    Actually I had a bug like that where someone OwnCloud wiped some local folders. I could never reproduce it though so we couldn't fix it.

    My last job we used OwnCloud but I never upgraded past version 7.x. Never had problems. Version 8 wants lots of new packages.

    If you can live without X, you can build a pretty usable LFS system. I've actually built Xorg but it takes a while to get that far.

    If you want to waste a week instead of a weekend, you could try "Linux From Scratch" instead. :) I do it about once a year or so.

    Exactly. They're just lazy and follow a 3rd party block list. Nobody wants to spend time on running a proper mail server anymore.

    I proably just need to get the right NIC driver in the kernel. It can be tricky. You can somtimes steal a config from a known working kernel
