Hans Schepker
Mathematical Artist
AIE
Hans's insatiable interest in the world of form has led him on a life's journey. His attention to detail and artistic eye has allowed him to perfect spinning, weaving, tailoring and kite making, culminating in three-dimensional geometric stained glass and paper works. Parallel to his craft he always shared his knowledge with apprentices, students, teachers and whoever happened to be staring over his shoulders when at work.
Hans is a state juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen, a recipient of a '91 fellowship grant from the NH State Council on the Arts, has represented NH in an international VSA Festival in Brussels, Belgium, and has received numerous awards for his artistic achievements, including a Smithsonian “Best in Category”. He is a certified Waldorf math and science teacher, and has been a teaching artist for 32 years, working with diverse populations.
Hans attends MathFest, Joint Mathematics Conference and has been invited to Gatherings for Gardner and the Bridges Conference.
Hans's work is included in many private collections and classrooms throughout the USA and his native Germany. One of his pieces is included in the permanent collection of the Mariposa Museum of World Cultures.
