Our mission, vision and values inform our approach, and we hold an annual Code for America Summit where we gather 1,200 technologists and public servants to grapple with the greatest challenges government faces today.
“It's an honor to work with colleagues who embody empathy and have a deep respect for the dignity of all people. Those same values inform how we work with each other at Code for America, contributing to a healthy, supportive workplace.”

And whether you’re on a technical or non-technical team, every employee gets access to a wide variety of a professional development resources for continuous learning and growth.
Culture
Code for America is committed to building a team as diverse as the nation we serve, and ensuring an inclusive culture for all employees. We are a mix of technologists, social justice activists, civic tech enthusiasts, and advocates for social impact. We come together to learn from our community at our regular lunchtime speaker series and gather quarterly for off-sites to check in with each other, celebrate our successes, and give back to our local communities. We also have a number of events and traditions, like our annual Thanksgiving potluck and Bureaucrat (Employee) of the Month, and multiple committees and clubs to engage people across teams to make Code for America an even greater place to work!
“It's great to work in such an inclusive, collaborative workplace. I get to work across teams every day, and events like our lunchtime speaker series or days of service give us an opportunity to engage with each other outside of our usual responsibilities.”

We work hard, but we also prioritize work-life balance. Our flexible schedules and time off policies allow you to take time when you need and build a schedule that works with your life.
Apprenticeship program
The Code for America apprenticeship is a full time, salaried, nine-month program. By building our capacity to train and support junior talent, we widen the reach of those we can hire, expand the diversity of our candidate pool, and provide ourselves and the larger tech space with skilled candidates from diverse backgrounds. We are committed to providing our apprentices with the training and support they need to successfully grow their careers.
This initiative is specifically targeted at candidates with non-traditional backgrounds, such as recent boot-camp graduates, people switching careers, or those re-entering the workforce. People who have lived experience, direct or indirect, with the government services we work on (such as the social safety net or the criminal justice system) are especially encouraged to apply. The 2020 apprenticeship starts in April, and we will begin accepting applications in early January.
Code for America does not discriminate against any person on any basis including, but not limited to, sex, gender and gender expression, race, color, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, religion, disability or veterans status. We particularly encourage members of groups traditionally underrepresented in technology and government to apply.
