I found a Poll addon for !ownCloud https://apps.owncloud.com/content/show.php?content=174671 But its "public" polls still require registration on the ownCloud instance... -

Agreed, up to the point of "there is no need for your own cloud". My !ownCloud / !Nextcloud *is* my own !selfhost.ed computer, and it provides the means for me to access my data on different devices which may not be connected to each other, or at all. -

I did not know that !ownCloud uses file-based encryption. I would like to see external storage as a single LUKS blob with its own internal filesystem. -

!ownCloud and !Nextcloud need access to the encryption key, but the offsite storage provider does not. So, if you keep your ownClould/Nextcloud server securely on your premises then you can use an offsite storage provider and get some additional security from encrypted storage. -

@weerosie The extremely, charmingly, buggy https://quit.im/ service (which federates with all of !GNUsocial)
Otherwise an #ownCloud or #MediaGoblin instance is great for uploading, archiving and storing, then you can either link to or embed from those places wherever you want to share the photos.
Don't Instagram horribly ruin, compress and otherwise mangle uploaded images? Not really a good way to share, eh. -
