@zoopster: So that I'm not just whinging or `being tribal', here's a solution: !Ubuntu should base universe on !Debian *stable* (or frozen).

@zoopster, what are you talking about? Yes, !Debian *does* support them--take the cacti update from 3 weeks ago as an example. !Ubuntu?

@zoopster: If !Ubuntu can't support `universe' themselves, I'd suggest that they should just let !Debian do it rather than precluding them.

@zoopster: Of course, even when things do work in !Ubuntu's `universe', you can't expect to get security updates like you can in !Debian.

@dilbertdave: A lot of stuff in !Ubuntu's `universe' section is broken, as they don't support it but do preclude !Debian's upstream support.
